The black pig breed of Bigorre is said to represent the oldest type of pig known in France. The Iberian type, the Black Bigorre pig is entirely black and originates at the foot of the Pyrenees, in Nebuzan (straddling the departments of Haute-Garonne, Hautes-Pyrénées and Gers).
Being no more than 25 per hectare, Black Pigs consume prairie grass based on clover and grasses and cereals (barley, triticale, wheat, rye) mixed with peas most often on a daily basis.
